Preparing your trip

Prepare For Your Trip

Here are some general travel tips before you take your flight.

  • Information about the country, culture and climate
  • Information about the medical care available locally
  • Vaccinations
  • Doctor contact information
  • Tropical medicine or vaccination centers
  • Insurances
  • Health insurance (coverage abroad)
  • Repatriation insurance

In the event of existing illnesses:

  • Obtain your doctor’s medical assessment for you to travel before departure.
  • Take a doctor’s report containing details of diagnosis, regular medicament requirement, special diet, allergies, etc.
  • Carry medicaments, including a reserve supply, in your hand luggage.

Children

  • Children are very susceptible to illnesses with diarrhea, particularly in the tropics; therefore ensure that they drink plenty of fluids. Diarrhea usually lasts between 5 and 7 days.
  • With small children, the balance of pressure between the pharynx and the middle ear is insufficient. Consequently, small children often suffer from earache during take-off and, above all, landing.

Pregnancy

  • If you are in good health, it is safe to fly during pregnancy. It is generally possible to fly up to between four and six weeks before your due date.
  • It is advisable to carry a letter from your gynecologist with you.
  • During the last four weeks prior to birth, you will require the airline’s consent.
